Today Mayor Roxanne Carr met with the Honourable Andrew Scheer and local physicians and small business owners to discuss the impact of the federal government’s proposed tax changes.

Mayor Roxanne Carr used the meeting to voice her concerns that the proposed tax changes will deter people from establishing small businesses in Strathcona County and across the country.

“As Mayor, I am committed to supporting small businesses who are the lifeblood of our economy,” said Mayor Roxanne Carr.  “Sherwood Park is home to over 11,000 businesses who employ many of our residents. We must keep our business community strong.”

Mayor Roxanne Carr’s campaign platform includes a focus on business and economic leadership. Her commitments to the business community include:

Keep business taxes low

  • under her leadership business taxes in Strathcona County were limited to a 1% increase down from double digits increases in previous years

Reduce regulatory burdens

  • Need to work with administration to avoid delays and processes which deter business investment

Establish a Mayor’s Task Force focused on Economic Innovation and Development

  • The Task Force will leverage the success of local business leaders and innovators to further economic development and diversification in Strathcona County.
